Craziest travel story yet: the day our luggage almost missed the ship

Hockey CelebrationLet me tell you about one of my wildest travel experiences yet.

We had a cruise booked out of Miami, with flights arranged to arrive the day before. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, life had other plans.

Our son’s hockey team made it to the championship game the night before we were supposed to fly out. And they won. Which meant we suddenly had to rebook everything and fly in the same day as the cruise instead.

To stay on the safe side, we packed light, just carry ons for each of us. But at the gate, the airline made us check our bags anyway. My bag, the one with all my clothing, swimwear, flip flops, and basically everything I needed for the whole trip, got misrouted to Chicago instead of Miami.

Cue the panic.

I begged the airline to rush my bag to the ship before it left port. By some miracle, it arrived 15 minutes before we sailed. Fifteen minutes. Talk about cutting it close.

Why I’m telling you this

Stories like this are exactly why I always recommend flying in the day before whenever possible, and why I build in buffer time for my clients even when everything looks fine on paper. Travel has a funny way of throwing curveballs, even when you’ve done everything right.

Now I want to hear yours. Have you had a crazy or memorable travel moment like this one? I would love to hear it, drop a comment or send me a message with your wildest travel story.
